Redesigning how court hearings are scheduled and listed
Defining the as-is and to-be processes for scheduling and listing court hearings, grounded in interviews with the people who do it every day.
1The client
The Ministry of Justice is modernising how hearings are scheduled and listed across the courts. The work needed a clear picture of how listing happens today and a designed future state that the digital team could build towards.
2The challenge
Listing involves judges, listing officers, legal professionals and court staff working with constraints that are rarely written down. The to-be process had to reflect those realities, not an idealised version of them.
The main objectives were to:
- Define the as-is scheduling and listing processes with the stakeholders who run them
- Interview end users to establish the real pain points
- Create the to-be journey based on the agreed epics and user stories
- Design the landing pages for the new service
3Our approach
We worked with Ministry of Justice stakeholders to document the as-is and to-be processes for scheduling and listing. We interviewed end users to establish pain points, then designed the to-be journey and the landing pages for the service, working from the epics and user stories agreed with the product team.
4The results
The programme has an evidenced as-is picture, a to-be journey and designed landing pages for the next phase of delivery. Our engagement ran from May to October 2026.
